I love wearing knitted socks, I'm not sure exactly what it is about them, the fact that a lot of love has gone into making them, the perfect fit, the yummy soft feel, the warmth.....
Luckily I also love knitting socks. Here is my current sock stash, I have knit probably twice this many pairs, but have gifted quite a few pairs, and a few have died a slow death as well.
I have knit in sock races, and I love joining in the monthly knit along on the Solid Socks Group, for lovers of solid and semi solid yarns. There are a lot of sock groups on Ravelry, but this is my favourite, for laid back, friendly knitting a-long! Evelyn is also hosting an ongoing sock Knit A Long in her Ravelry Group which is lovely and relaxed (and rule free).
Currently I have 3 pairs of socks on the needles. That is a bit of a record for me, I usually stick to one amongst my other projects.
A second pair of a new design, a new design which needs a bit of ripping, and an on the go pair of Basket Weave Rib socks.
I personally like to knit my socks using the magic loop method, using a longer circular needle (My preference is 60cm long, but 80cm is good too) I just find it easier than juggling Double Point Needles, but I have been known to knit socks that way too!The needles I am using at the moment are ChiaoGoo Reds, I LOVE fixed circulars for socks.
I got a few more skeins of sock yarn the other day, so what better post to share them in...
Have you given socks a go yet?
Mmmmm yummy socks! I love knitting socks too, and have a gorgeous set of 5 DPNs by Ashford of NZ, they are bamboo and are my faves for sock knitting. Love your Basket Weave pattern, it's my "go-to" sock pattern
ReplyDeleteNever knitted socks, heard they feel amazing to wear!
ReplyDeletehaha I love your socks! And magic loop is definitely the way to go when it comes to knitting them. I really need to work on my sock pattern! I bet you'd love it :)
ReplyDeleteI loooove knitting socks. I feel like it's the perfect combination between ease and complexity. I'm actually wearing my first knit pair right now!
ReplyDeleteMost of the socks I've knit are from somewhat crazy colorways. But recently, I've been buying only solid, neutrals. I'm going to have to check out that Ravelry group!
ReplyDeleteI've got 3 pairs on the needles at the moment too, I normally have 2 (1 plain, 1 charted), but at the moment all 3 have a pattern to them. I recognise those yarns you got, one of them might also have gone to my place.
ReplyDeleteI'm late to join the sock party, but I'm loving it, as you'll know as you read my blog post! I went to a trade show at the NEC today and was really attracted to all the sock yarns, I wanted to get in there and start another pair already! I can definately see how they can become addictive. I think the next ones I make will be one colour so they aren't so thick.
ReplyDeleteIve currently got 2 pairs on the needles at present both for my SILs. Have sort of lost my sock knitting mojo at moment, their is something so satisfying about knitting socks, its rewarding to see something lovely and practical emerging.
ReplyDeleteI love your current sock stash! It is impossible to ever have too many pairs. I am a double pointed needle lover. I should give Magic Loop a try though. I can't say it's not for me until I have actually tried it. I have knit using two circular needles, and don't care for that method.
ReplyDeleteYour new yarn is pretty, as are you projects on your needles.
loving the look of your socks! and they're beautifully color coordinated too all together!
ReplyDeletei knit just one pair in my life before out of some knitpicks comfy yarn, and absolutely loved it. someday i'll work my way to my drawer full of just hand knit socks, but i can't bear to throw my factory-made ones before they've worn out!
knitting socks on circulars instead of dpns look really interesting, i might give that a try for my second pair.
I want a sock basket just like yours in the top photo! The textures & colors are so appealing - I'd be happy just to peak into it everyday!
ReplyDeleteOh. My. Look at those socks! Maybe if I learned the magic loop method I too would like to knit socks?
ReplyDeleteI am constantly impressed by the look of that vintage purls yarn. I'll have to get myself some :)
ReplyDeleteHaven't knitted socks for ages. Last time I used DPN's but since I have used the magic loop method a couple of times successfully for sleeves and what not, would use magic loop next time I make socks. I like really long socks (up to my knees) which might be why I haven't made myself any. Would need at least twice as much yarn!
